Starting Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, people in Brunswick County can use Duke Energy’s interactive map to find their property’s zone number and relocation center for the Brunswick Nuclear Plant. The emergency planning zones are expanding from 13 zones to 20, so a property’s number may be different starting in November. The Town of Caswell Beach, in Brunswick County, North Carolina, shared the notice in an email bulletin dated Oct. 27, 2026.

How to find your zone number

From Nov. 2, go to duke-energy.com/NuclearEP and use the interactive map to identify your property’s zone. The map also shows the relocation center for that zone.

The bulletin says the online map will not show the new zones until “next Monday.” The wording on that point is unclear, so check Duke Energy’s page for the current zone before you rely on it.

What is changing

The size of the emergency planning zone area is not changing. The boundaries of several zones are changing, and the map is growing from 13 zones to 20. The bulletin says a PDF attached to the notice compares the new zone map with the original.

The bulletin does not say which towns or neighborhoods fall into each new zone.

What this notice does and does not mean

The notice is about instructions that would be issued only in the unlikely event of a nuclear emergency. It does not describe a current emergency or a current risk. It asks residents to find their zone number so they know which instructions apply to them if officials issue them.
