The Ralph H. Johnson system’s main number is 843-577-5011, per its new patient page. Pharmacy support runs weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern.
How do I enroll in VA health care?
Apply online at VA.gov, by phone at 877-222-8387 (weekdays 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern), by mail on VA Form 10-10EZ, or in person with a signed form at a VA medical center or clinic, per VA.gov. VA says most decisions take less than a week; if you hear nothing after a week, call rather than reapplying.
Have these ready:
- Social Security numbers for you, your spouse and qualified dependents
- Discharge papers, such as the DD-214, your service history and any toxic exposure details
- Insurance cards, including Medicare and employer plans
- Last year’s gross household income and deductible expenses, which VA may need depending on your eligibility
Horry County Veterans Affairs in Conway also helps with VA medical enrollment at no cost, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (843-915-5480), per Horry County.
I already get VA care elsewhere. How do I switch to Myrtle Beach?
If you are already enrolled, report your new address, insurance or income on VA Form 10-10EZR, which the Charleston system lists for reporting life changes. Then call the Ralph H. Johnson system at 843-577-5011 and ask for a primary care team at the Myrtle Beach clinic. VA explains that every enrolled veteran is assigned to a primary care clinic and a Patient Aligned Care Team, which schedules visits and coordinates other care.
How do I get to my appointment?
VA lists several options for the Myrtle Beach clinic:
- DAV vans for veterans and authorized caregivers going to scheduled appointments; schedules vary.
- Other local veteran van services.
- Beneficiary travel, which may cover round-trip rides, mileage or special transport if you qualify.
- Wheelchairs on arrival for patients who need them.
Where else can veterans get free counseling?
The Myrtle Beach Vet Center, 1101 Johnson Ave., Suite 201, offers confidential counseling for depression, PTSD and military sexual trauma, plus family and couples counseling and grief support, “at no cost in a non-medical setting.” It is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some non-traditional hours. Scheduling: 843-232-2441. After hours: 877-927-8387.
What do Brunswick County veterans use?
North Carolina veterans on the Strand are served by a different VA system. VA lists the Brunswick County VA Clinic at 18 Doctors Circle, Suite 2, in Supply, and the Wilmington VA Clinic at 1705 Gardner Road, both run by the Fayetteville Coastal health care system.
