In peak season, a Myrtle Beach business can get the same questions hundreds of times a day: Do you have a tee time Saturday morning? Can you seat 12? Is there parking? Is the pool heated? An AI agent on your website or WhatsApp can answer all of them at once, at any hour. With 18.2 million visitors a year on the Grand Strand, per Visit Myrtle Beach, that’s a lot of questions, and a lot of sales.

The technology is ready. What fails is usually the setup. These are the four traps we see most often.

Trap 1: An agent that doesn’t really know the business

Think of your best front-desk employee, the one who knows every rate, every policy and every exception. That’s the bar for an AI agent. Many chatbots fall far short: they don’t know seasonal hours, quote last year’s prices or give answers so generic they could belong to any business on Ocean Boulevard.

How to avoid it: train the agent on everything: services, prices by season, policies, group rules, directions, parking. Update it the same day anything changes. And make sure it uses that knowledge well, matching the right option to what each customer actually asks.

Trap 2: An agent that goes off script

Left without limits, an AI agent can improvise: invent a discount, promise a late checkout or agree to something because a customer pushed. Whatever it says, your business said it. In a well-known 2024 case, a Canadian tribunal held Air Canada responsible for a refund policy its chatbot made up, as Business Law Today reported.

How to avoid it: set clear limits on what it can offer and decide. When it isn’t sure, it should say it will confirm and pass the question to your team.

Trap 3: Hiding that it’s AI

Customers want to know who they’re talking to, and some states, including California, Maine, New Jersey and Utah, require disclosure in certain situations, according to a January 2026 DLA Piper summary. If you store conversations, say so and ask permission.

How to avoid it: a simple first line does it: “Hi, I’m the AI assistant for [your business].” Keep the tone yours, and never collect card numbers in the chat.

Trap 4: No path to a person

A complaint, a lost item, a large group with special needs: some conversations need a human. An agent that can’t hand them off turns a solvable problem into a bad review.

How to avoid it: build the handoff in. If someone is available, transfer right away. If not, log the request, tell the customer when they’ll hear back and make sure your team sees it first thing.

What a well-built agent looks like

At Fluxia Group, we treat an AI agent as a new hire. It learns your culture, your vocabulary, your information and your way of serving and selling, because it is the first face many customers will see. Before any agent goes live, we run hundreds of tests until we’re confident the business will be happy with it. Our assistant, Fluxy, works on websites and WhatsApp: it answers questions, takes reservations and appointments, logs leads and hands off to your staff when it should. Want to talk it through? Questions and answers

Can an AI chatbot handle peak-season volume in Myrtle Beach?
Yes. An AI agent can answer many conversations at the same time, which helps most during the busiest weeks, as long as it is trained on your current information.
What should an AI agent never do on its own?
Make offers, refunds or exceptions outside the limits you set. When in doubt, it should confirm with your team.
Should my chatbot work on WhatsApp too?
If your customers already message you there, yes. Many travelers prefer messaging to calling.
