Grand Strand school ratings, school by school

On South Carolina's 2026 report cards, 47 of Horry County Schools' 59 ratings are Excellent or Good, and 5 of Georgetown's 19. In Brunswick (North Carolina), 59.9% of 2025-26 test scores were at grade level (state: 59.2%) and 5 of 20 schools exceeded expected growth. Every school is listed below. Dates checked on Nov. 1, 2026 against each district's published calendar. Districts can change days off and make-up days; the district always wins.

How local schools are rated

  • South Carolina School Report Cards (SC)

Each public school gets an overall rating: Excellent, Good, Average, Below Average or Unsatisfactory, from several measures, including state test results and, in high schools, the graduation rate.

Latest: 2026 report cards (2025-26 school year). Statewide, 320 report cards were rated Excellent, 357 Good, 491 Average, 103 Below Average and 24 Unsatisfactory; 26 were not rated.

  • North Carolina School Performance Grades (NC)

Each public school gets a grade from A to F, based mostly on test scores and partly on student growth, plus a separate growth rating (exceeded, met or did not meet expected growth).

Brunswick County schools are graded by the NC Department of Public Instruction; the 2025-26 results are posted on its accountability page.

South Carolina and North Carolina rate schools with different systems, so a South Carolina rating and a North Carolina grade can't be compared. Compare schools within the same state.

How each school did: 2026 ratings and test results

Every public school in the three districts, from each state's official 2026 data. Horry and Georgetown show South Carolina's rating (Excellent, Good, Average, Below Average or Unsatisfactory); Brunswick shows North Carolina's test results and growth. The two states measure differently, so compare schools within the same state.

South Carolina gives a separate rating for each level a school serves, so a school with grades 6-12 can have both a middle school and a high school rating. Points are the school's overall score out of 100. Each level (elementary, middle, high) has its own cut-offs for each rating, so compare points only between schools of the same level. In the 2026 statewide data, elementary report cards rated Excellent had 61 points or more and middle school ones 56 or more; high school ratings overlap more (Good ranged from 60 to 72 points, Excellent started at 67). If your child is in middle school, look at the middle school rating, even when the school also has another level. The town is the school's mailing address in the state file: many schools in Carolina Forest, Forestbrook, Socastee and Ocean Bay have a Myrtle Beach address, so type the area's name in the search box to find the schools named after it. Horry County Schools is organized in nine attendance areas, each with its own bus office on the district's 2026-27 calendar: Aynor, Carolina Forest, Conway, Green Sea Floyds, Loris, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Socastee and St. James. Charter schools and HCS program schools (Early College and Scholars Academy) take students by application, not by address.

Parents, help keep this guide right

  • Calendar changed? If your district moves a day off or a make-up day, tell us the date and where it was announced. We check it against the district. Send it.
  • School event open to the public? Plays, fairs and fundraisers can go on our events calendar. Send it.

What readers send is checked by our editors and published as "Reader reports", apart from the official calendars. We never publish your email, and we don't publish names or photos of students.
